Every conversion ends with a decision about glass. It changes the price, how easy the shower is to step into, and how much you will be cleaning. Here is the honest comparison.
FOUR WAYS TO CLOSE IT
Not in dollars alone. In clearance to step through, in how much water stays in, and in how much of your Saturday goes to cleaning a track.
One piece of tempered glass, no hinges, no track, and a walk-in gap to step through. Nothing to pull closed and nothing along the curb to clean. On a standard alcove this is what we recommend most often, and it is included at every tier.
A hinged or sliding door with a slim frame at the edges and clear glass across the face. Contains more spray than a panel, which matters if you use a handheld on a slide bar. Standard sizes, ordered with the rest of the materials.
Thick tempered glass with no frame at all, templated after the walls are tiled and cut to your exact opening. It is the best-looking option and the most expensive, and it is the one piece of a conversion we do not install ourselves.
Not a downgrade. A rod gives you the widest possible opening to step through, costs the least, and is what a lot of people actually want when getting in and out is the whole reason for the conversion.
THE ONE WE SUB OUT
Everything else in your bathroom is done by our crew. Custom frameless glass is not, because it is templated in a shop, cut to a tolerance that does not forgive, and heavy enough that dropping it costs more than the panel.
A glass fabricator we work with handles it. They come once, after the tile is set. We tell you which day, they invoice us, and your fixed price does not change because of it.
